Facebook Plus App Icons
Facebook & Messenger
Facebook Plus is Meta's paid subscription tier for Facebook and Messenger, offering enhanced social features including profile customization, super reactions, and story insights. As part of the subscription's launch, I led art direction and design for 14 custom app icons across two platforms: 7 for Facebook and 7 for Messenger. These icons are a premium perk exclusive to subscribers, letting users personalize their app icons on their home screen.

Exploration
To push the work beyond the expected, 200+ concepts were generated using AI. The volume allowed for exploration within a wide range of styles quickly, to identify what made each icon feel genuinely distinct.
Execution
Each icon was built around the negative space and shape language of the original Facebook and Messenger logos. Preserving those elements kept the new designs instantly recognizable while giving each icon room to feel distinct.

The direction was anchored by materiality and color to give visual form to each icon design. The process was deliberately experimental, drawing from vector illustration, digital painting, 3D design, and Gen AI to push each concept toward something visually distinct. Referencing visual territories and current trends kept the work relevant without letting it feel derivative.
The result is a set of icons that each feel like a distinct expression while remaining unmistakably Facebook. From dreamy to retro, liquid to glitchy, the range gives subscribers something genuinely personal to choose from without compromising the brand they know.
